We inform you in these documents about how we process personal data on our websites. Also if you visit our websites on behalf of a company, some of the data you provide may be regarded as personal data. To ensure the sound provision of services, personal data are processed (i.e. stored, accessed and retained) in the cases described in this Privacy Statement. In processing personal data, we take into account the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). All personal data are processed with due care. We refer on our website to our company profile and the profiles of our employees on social media portals Meta (formerly Facebook), X (formerly Twitter), Instagram and LinkedIn. By presenting our firm on social media, we aim to actively communicate with you and offer you the opportunity to find out more about our services. If you contact us via social media, we process the data you provide for that purpose. We process your personal data based on our legitimate interest to communicate with you and to continuously optimise our company profile online.
The social media portals are not managed by us, but by the portals themselves under their own responsibility. We have no influence on the data collected by the service providers or on the data processing, and we do not know the full extent of the data collection, the purposes of the data processing, or the retention periods. Personal data
Depending on the type of relationship between you and Brouwer Legal, different types of personal data may be processed. Different data are processed for clients, for instance, than for visitors to our website. The following personal data may be processed by Brouwer Legal:
- surname, birth name, first name and initials, position, and the name by which you are generally known;
- date of birth and age;
- place of birth;
- gender;
- contact details: address, mobile and landline number, e-mail address; and
- IP address.
Purposes of data processing
Your personal data will be processed exclusively for the following purposes:
- the performance of agreements with the company for which you work;
- negotiations/handling of offers and enquiries with the company for which you work;
- execution of projects and work (including invoicing);
- invitations to events/meetings organised by Brouwer Legal;
- PR/marketing/acquisition by Brouwer Legal;
- contact in response to a contact request (including via our website or at an event); and
- improvement of Brouwer Legal’s business operations.
Your personal data will not be processed for any purpose other than those listed above.
Sharing of personal data with third parties
We share personal data with third parties engaged by us with a view to the provision of their services, such as other law firms, civil-law notaries, accountants and tax specialists. We also share personal data with other relevant parties, as far as the provision of our services so requires, such as counterparties, judicial authorities and government agencies.
We share personal data with external service providers, such as website hosting providers, cloud service providers and providers of software and other systems that we use. The personal data shared with these service providers does not go beyond what is strictly necessary with a view to the provision of services.
Third parties with which we share personal data are themselves responsible for processing such personal data. We are neither responsible nor liable for the processing of your personal data by third parties. Where a third party acts as a processor of personal data for us, we will enter into a data processing agreement with that third party.
Your personal data will be shared only with employees at Brouwer Legal who need to know your personal data in order to perform the agreement with you or the company for which you work, or as far as sharing is necessary in order to contact you. All Brouwer Legal employees are bound by a duty of confidentiality.
Term of the data processing
Your personal data will not be processed for longer than necessary or prescribed by law. The data processing in any event takes place throughout the client/supplier/collaboration relationship with you or with the company for which you work.
If the relationship with you or the company for which you work ends, Brouwer Legal will retain your personal data for seven (7) years after the termination of the relationship. This retention is necessary to comply with applicable laws and regulations, as well as in light of individual agreements with you or your company.
If your personal data are not processed in the context of an (existing) client/supplier/collaboration relationship, Brouwer Legal will retain your personal data for three (3) years after the provision of the personal data.
After the aforesaid period(s), we will destroy your personal data, unless you again consent to the processing of your personal data.
Your rights
You have the following rights regarding the processing of your personal data:
- the right to access your personal data processed by us. In doing so, you will also receive a list of third parties to which your personal data have been provided;
- right to rectification, if, for instance, we have not processed the correct data;
- right to erasure of personal data (‘right to be forgotten’). This does not apply if and as far as we are required by law to retain your personal data;
- right to personal data portability;
- right to withdraw consent to process your personal data; and
- right to present questions or comments/concerns to us and, if that process is unsatisfactory, to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

Due care, technical security and access to data
We handle your personal data with due care and ensure proper (technical) security of those personal data. In all cases, we comply with legal requirements relating to the protection of personal data, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679). Among other things, we prevent the processing of unnecessary personal data, access to personal data is limited to a group of employees who need to be able to process your personal data (e.g. to perform an agreement with you or to be able to contact you), we use only ICT systems that adequately protect your personal data, and we have a policy and protocol in place to prevent personal data leaks.
All employees who have access to personal data handle those data with care and are bound by a duty of confidentiality.
